Poor Fund

The Poor Fund was established by Deacon Don Triggs in the 1990’s to address the needs of a growing number of people coming to St. Mary’s for financial assistance..  Today a group of volunteers from our parish work form a board to provide for those in our community who are in need of financial assistance.

Funding for the assistance provided by the Poor Fund is solely generated through the generous donations of St. Mary’s parishioners.  Throughout the years, we have been able to provide this much needed assistance.

The Poor Fund also coordinates its efforts with various community organizations in order to provide a more comprehensive solution to the needs of our clients.

What Kind of Assistance Does the Poor Fund Provide?

The Poor Fund provides assistance for needs  ranging from utility bills, gas, and rent.  Each client is screened by our trained volunteers to ensure that funds are disbursed responsibly.

Who Can Avail of the Assistance?

The Poor Fund considers all who walk through our doors.  The primary beneficiaries of this assistance are parishioners and non-parishioners living in Benton County.  We, however, will consider special cases.

How Can You Help?

There are several ways the Poor Fund can use your help:

  1. Donate to the Poor Fund — Your generous contribution is always welcome. Checks can be made to St. Mary’s, please indicate “Poor Fund” on the memo line.  Green envelopes are also made available to parishioners along with their regular contribution envelopes.
  2. Be a part of the Poor Fund team — Volunteers are welcome to spend some time meeting with those who come for assistance. Training will be provided.  Any amount of time commitment is greatly appreciated!

The Poor Fund provides financial assistance to parishioners and their families who are experiencing an emergency situation. Other persons in need, who live in Benton County are assisted by referral to appropriate agencies or by direct aid.

Due to the circumstances surrounding COVID our communication guidelines have changed.
