Meet Your Minister

Sean Akroyd

“Growing up in a non-religious family, I was always in search of something to ground myself in--something solid, something meaningful, something handed down from generation to generation. I found this ‘rock’ in Christ and the Catholic Church after attending Mass as a nonbeliever for more than three years. The welcome I received, both from the parish community but also from the open arms of Christ and His Church, was a formative experience which put my life in the proper perspective and gave it direction. This process of initiation into God’s family is one of the great movements of life that I hope to help our youth experience, so that they might have a glance into the mystery of God’s plan for our glorification through Him.”

“I was raised in Corvallis and found the OSU Newman Center in 2019. I began to attend the Alpha Course, then Fragua, and later entered as a Canidate into RCIA. I was welcomed home into the Catholic Church on the Feast of Pentecost in 2020. In 2021, my life and my faith expanded when I married my husband, and again, in 2023, when we welcomed our daughter into our family through the Sacrament of Baptism. This Sacramental life that Christ and His Church have given me creates a new hope for the future and a new joy for today. I am excited to share with each person who joins our ministry that this story of grace is not mine alone- it belongs to Christ and is shared again and again, personally and uniquely, to each person who has the courage to follow Mary's instructions to ‘do whatever He tells you’.”
